This collection of native grasses provide diversity to many planted conditions in the landscape, including shady areas, sunny spots, along the creekside, in a sweeping concentration or as textural punctuation in a planted buffer.
These grasses tend to form clumps or mounds of medium-height to tall grasses that stand out among other herbaceous forbs.
Although not suitable for sporty activities, like a zoysia-based lawn would be, some low-growing species from the short-grass prairie regions of Texas, like buffalo grass, blue grama + curley mesquite, can be useful in a full-sun prairie patch. If conditions are right, this is a great way to have a lawn-like appearance without an excessive irrigation or service mandate.
